Scarred

i am a seashell
one among many
i have cuts in my shell
wounds in my skin
because
i was tossed
to and fro
by the waves
and the winds
of life's oceans
calloused by
the rough sands
i am complicated
mysterious
yet
fascinating
inevitable change
comes
but the marks
remain
my uniqueness
stands out
i am
aesthetically
scarred

Pain

Indescribable,

my lifeless heart’s agony

buried deep in pain

Unspeakable wrath

of your sharp-edged tongue

stabbed me to death.

Hatred overwhelmed

your jealous narcissistic

self and scattered plumes.

My soul’s rain of tears

drowned myself. I have lost you.

I only have me.

Living a Smile

talk less and smile more

it will make your mind at work

heal you from the hurts

to die is easy

but you have to live harder

make time for yourself

talk less and smile more

from within, it's a call to

live beautifully

Daily Hope

Day starts at four dawn
With closed eyes to the Great One
Tranquility reigns

My heart in whispers
Gratitude is my first breath
For life I behold

Mindfulness I seek
No matter what the day brings
Be kind, true and strong

I can never tell
In a quandary I am
Will this be my last?

the last picnic...

the family’s picnic on Easter weekend
painted the ocean blue
the sand, smoothly grayish and ashen
food, fun, laughter, we all had
stories were told
hopefully joyful to cover the strains

but life is uncertain
in one snap, everything breaks
and falls apart
even hearts mourned and wailed

will there be another reason to picnic?

a dreadful cold night
scarred body and spirit
ruthless souls ripped me

i can hear my mom
in the stillness, heaven cries
her shattered heart weeps

"Teodora"...My Mother

She is the SUN that rises in the east
radiantly streaming her rays through the trees.

She is the JEWEL in our palace
whose price is far above rubies.

She is the gentle BREEZE
that touches my skin in the morning.

She is the budding FLOWER
bursting with the scent of spring.

She is the ROSE CANARY outside
that sings the sweetest song ever.

She is the cool refreshing WATER
running down from the mountain.

And she is the HEART that never stops beating
to live in order to love and give life.

She is "TEODORA"….
my beloved MOTHER.

Goodbye Mommy..rest in peace now with Our Creator. Till we meet again...
Thank you for loving me and giving me life...I love you...

Note: This was my tribute to my Mom when she died last January 14, 2014, posted on my facebook wall on January 21, 2014.

Mirror

 Self-portrait, Vivian Maier

My heart bares all
Every beat on a gentle pace
Nothing is left to read.

Do you see myself?

Can you feel me?
I bet you don't
Because you treat me as trash

Don't look at me with your eyes
Only with your heart
Then and only then
You will see
That I am
Venus.

My Birthday Prayer

Almighty God and Father, I love you and  I give you all the glory and praise forever and ever!
Gracious God, source of all goodness, thank you for the gift of life and for Your loving presence in my life for the past fifty-four years.  You have blessed me with another year to live which I am ever so grateful. By your grace, may I be able to continue to grow in your love and to serve You more each day.
Thank you for Mommy and Daddy, whom You have already called to Your kingdom. This is my first birthday without them Lord. You know how much I really miss them. As I close my eyes, I can see and hear them singing happy birthday to me. They will forever be the pillars of my faith and strength for they have passed on to me the gift of faith that you have blessed them with.
Thank you for all the blessings, as well as the trials of the past year, most especially, the loss of my Mommy, Daddy, Uncle Cesar, Lola Nieves and Ate Emma.  I will never understand why these deaths had to happen in a span of seven months.  But truly, my Lord, Your ways and thoughts are higher than mine. You allow things to happen for a reason and for the good of everyone.  All of these experiences did not only make me stronger in faith.  It made me hunger more for You and do what is pleasing to You.
Thank you for my loved ones and for all the people around me whom You have sent as Your instruments to love, teach, guide, strengthen and humble me. They have made my life beautiful. I am what I am now because of them.
For the times that I failed you, my Lord, please forgive me.  Lead me always to the path of righteousness and never allow anything to come between us.
I do not know what lies ahead of me now, Lord.  What I know and believe is Your promise to me in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you…plans to prosper you and not to harm you..plans to give you hope and a future.”
And so dear God, as I go through this year, my prayer is for me to be free from health concerns and financial worries, to always see and love you in every person I meet every day, to rise above my human nature in moments of weakness,  and to never cease to do better each day…all for Your honor and glory.  All of these I pray, in the sweetest name of Your Son, Jesus Christ.  Amen.

Mayari

The moon god's light is all over the village.
I have to be up and about
in this wee hour of the morning
 to lovingly caress my strands
and lavish my skin
with sweet coconut oil.
The tall Caucasian man visited our tribe
on the fourth day of this week.
He said he will be back today
to teach me how to read this thing he calls book.
Oh gee! I love to touch his curly brown locks
and stare at his blue eyes.
Something in the way he gazes at my body
sends a tingly sensation inside of me.
Oh yes, he smells extremely masculine!
Unlike the men around here
whose breath reek of tobacco
and wild boar's stench.
Today, I will tell him who I am.
My Ina named me after the goddess of the moon
whose beauty illumines the entire kingdom of
Diwatas.

I am
Mayari.

Secret Love

I have loved you
from the moment you called my name.
Thinking out loud
that it was meant for me.
Pain stifled my sobs,
echoed  through the abyss of my soul
wanting to reach and touch you
wake you up from slumber.
What will become of my tears?
Until when
 will your heart be deaf?
 So engraved in my bones
where no one will ever see.
This I have to hde
until the sun will set on me.

Soar High

    spinning movements
 in space and time
trapped  in a cyclone
two forces
in a tug-of-war

 down under
 gravity pulls me
to drink myself
in oblivion
soul drenched in pleasures
calloused wings dropped me down

up above
 the harp plays
cherubs chant
 hymns of hope

the Supreme's love
 raises me up
from the heavens
a glimmer of light
 beckons

soar high
 never give up
never fly down

In Limbo

Summer Night, 1913, by Albert Bloch

weary souls await
eternal rest in comfort
moonlight's luminosity
reflects hope
floodgates of heaven
an entrance
to everlasting feast

they are drifters
for now

in limbo

The Presence

leaning against the window
the lady in white flowing gown
tilts her head
flashes a saccharine smile
beckons me over
with a wave of her hand
sunlight seeps through her
the clock ticks to warn
my bones chill
the floating presence recedes

with my naked eyes
i see her

a spirit
